Fabulous strands of pearls for Sex & the City girls

So I’m at my boyfriend’s house, patiently waiting for him to finish getting ready (that’s right—he takes longer than me) and suddenly, I hear a familiar voice on the television…

It’s Sarah Jessica Parker and it’s the trailer for Sex & the City 2. I gasp in shock and delight, and my boyfriend rolls his eyes and laughs at my excitement as I wave my hands frantically in a “get the heck out of my way, you’re in front of the TV, and please shut up” gesture. I sit there with my mouth hanging open as I absorb every second of the extravagant fashion and scenery from the film. Aidan shows up on-screen and I say “holy sh*t” because, oh my gosh, that means he’s back in Carrie’s life. Once the trailer ends, all I can say is, “I can’t friggin’ wait to see that!” Luckily, I’m not a cruel girlfriend and don’t plan on dragging my boyfriend to see it with me—I’ll go alone if I have to. (And yes, he’ll be going alone to see Iron Man 2. It’s only fair!)

In case it’s not obvious enough, I love Sex & the City. I realize that the TV show and movies are completely over-the-top, sometimes offensive and totally exaggerated, but I can’t help it. The fashion makes me squeal with delight and green with envy. And their fictional lives make me wish I wrote a sex column in a second-rate urban newspaper or owned my own public relations firm and somehow still found the time to get my nails done and have brunch with three of my girlfriends every week.

I’m not even one of those SATC-obsessed women who buy everything related to the Fab Four—for me, it’s just a guilty pleasure. And that guilty pleasure sometimes sneaks its way into my everyday life in the form of “Carrie-esque” fabric flowers and a love of shoes (though I spend considerably less on fashion than Miss Bradshaw does).

Lately, I’ve rediscovered my love of pearls. And I don’t just mean one strand of pearls—I mean strand upon strand of varying lengths of glowing pearls, just like what Carrie wears in Season Four when she’s out to dinner with the girls and Aidan, shortly after their engagement. (See photo)
